The same leverage, funding, and liquidation mechanics from our Kraken, Bybit, and Binance futures guides, applied to OKX.
Draft status: needs a compliance pass and real product screenshots before it goes live — see the checklist below.
If you’ve read the Kraken or Bybit futures guides, leverage, funding rate, liquidation price, and isolated vs. cross margin all mean the same thing here. This guide covers what’s actually different on OKX.
Where OKX differs
- Unified account structure. OKX’s account model lets spot, margin, futures, and options share a single unified margin account by default in many configurations — a similar idea to Bybit’s Unified Trading Account, and a different mental model from Kraken’s more separated wallets.
- Funding interval. Every 8 hours, matching Bybit and Binance, longer than Kraken’s hourly interval.
- Product breadth in one interface. OKX surfaces futures alongside options, copy trading, and bots in the same app — see the OKX-specific guides for options, copy trading, and bots if you’re exploring beyond futures on this platform.
Walkthrough: opening a position on OKX
- Fund your unified trading account and confirm the balance is available for derivatives, not just spot.
- Select the perpetual contract for the asset you want (e.g.
BTC-USDT-SWAP).
- Choose isolated or cross margin — isolated remains the more contained choice for a first position on any platform.
- Set your leverage, keeping the same principle from the other futures guides in mind: lower leverage buys more room before liquidation.
- Enter your order and size, checking the displayed liquidation price before confirming.
- Monitor your margin ratio and the 8-hour funding settlements after the position is open.
Risk
This is leveraged trading — you can lose more than your initial margin faster than in spot trading, on any platform. Read Position Sizing before opening a position here if you haven’t already. Nothing on this page is financial advice.
